How Much Should I Feed My Pet Each Day? |

The question we are most frequently ased by our customers is how much food should I give my pet each day. Unfortunately there is not an exact answer that is correct for every pet. Like people, pets have different activity levels and metabolism rates. And just like people, some seem to stay thin no matter how much they eat while others remain overweight in spite of our efforts to help them loose a few pounds. A good starting point would be to begin feeding an amount equal to about 3% and 4% of their body weight daily. For a 10 pound (160-ounces) cat or dog that would work out to between 5 and 6 ounces per day. Other factors enter into the equation as well such as the caloric content of the food (see the Metabolizable Energy footnote on our products page) and the activity level of the pet. Of course, growing kittens and puppies as well as pregnant or nursing females require additional calories as well. Observe whether the pet is finishing all of the food you put out, and if so, does it still appear to be hungry. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the pet reaches and maintains an appropriate body weight. For active pets who are at a near ideal weight consider trying one our products that is higher in calories such as the chicken or pork. For pets who need to shed a few pounds consider trying one of the lower calory products such as rabbit, turkey, or the rabbit-chicken blend. I will not take long for you to reach a routine where your pet is getting the right amount of food each day and is maintaining or reaching an ideal body weight.
